WORCESTER, Mass.- Gas prices continue to rise across the state as it becomes a seven-year record high.

The average price of gas in Massachusetts is $3.31 a gallon.

AAA Northeast says higher crude oil prices are mostly to blame and have increased more than $20 a barrel since August.

Spokesperson Mark Shieldrop says there is a high demand for oil, but inventory is down. Shieldrop also thinks it's a concern heading into the winter heating season and the holidays and it's already led to higher food prices at supermarkets.

"You've got to remember that a lot of the cost of the products we buy is due to fuel prices,” Sheildrop said. “Because everything we buy has to be driven and transported and it costs fuel to do that, so higher prices at the pump will trickle down to the higher prices on the grocery shelves."

Shieldrop says to save money at the pump you can shop around and as it gets colder that people should check their tire pressure. Fuel mileage may be affected by improperly inflated tires.
