FOXBOROUGH -- The Patriots got two players back on the practice field Wednesday.

Jarrett Stidham and Byron Cowart, who are both on PUP, were practicing, which means their 21-day windows have started. If they are not activated to the roster during that time then they stay on PUP and are done for the year.

Stidham likely is viewed as an upgrade over Brian Hoyer so it would be expected he's activated at some point and then they will keep three quarterbacks or try and move Hoyer to the practice squad. It's likely Garrett Gilbert's time with the team is coming to a close.

Meanwhile, Cowart will be competing for playing time with the defensive tackles already on the roster. We'll see if he's ultimately activated.

Linebacker Terez Hall could have begun practicing, but he did not.
