The Bergen National Opera in Norway has announced the cancelation of performances from its new production of “Rusalka.”

The company revealed that due to the ongoing strike in the Norwegian cultural life, performances on Oct. 23, 25, and 27 will not proceed as planned.

The company said, “The ongoing strike in cultural life has resulted in us having to cancel the performances of Rusalka on Oct. 23, 25, and 27 with a heavy heart. Tickets are automatically refunded. If the strike is called off in the coming days, there are still opportunities for us to complete the performance on Oct. 29.  We expect that it will then be sold out quickly, and would recommend that you buy a new ticket to the show on Oct. 29 as soon as possible.”

According to the company, the musicians in the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra have gone on strike, among many other cultural workers in Norway.

The Bergen National Opera is among the hardest hit by the strike as the company can not choose alternative playing periods as soloists have contracts with other opera houses, in addition to the time window in the collaboration with Harmonien and Grieg Hall is limited to one period in the spring and one in the autumn.

“Rusalka” was set to star Swedish superstar Malin Byström in her role debut.

This is the latest strike in Norway following the Norwegian National Opera‘s strike earlier this fall which forced the company to cancel a production of “Dead Man Walking.
