5 Exciting Things To Do & Eat In LA Between Oct. 20th-24th
We’ll say this as nicely as possible - if you’re still waiting to embrace spooky season, what are you waiting for? Halloween is next weekend, so queue up those scary movies, secure the best pumpkins before they’re gone, and plan out your week with the best seasonal activities in LA. There’s a Dia de Los Muertos art installation Downtown, an oddities flea market, and plenty of costume parties.
The Events
Beginning this Sunday, October 24th, head down to Grand Park in Downtown to experience their Dia de Los Muertos community altars. In partnership with Self Help Graphics & Art, the installation features 11 different altars created by local artists and non-profits, all representing the losses and causes of this past year. In addition, there will also be audio tours highlighting the history and traditions of Dia de Los Muertos. Admission to the event is free.
One of our favorite pop-ups in town is back, and per usual, the line-up does not disappoint. Featuring a special collab between iconic Chinatown institution Jade Wok and Pearl River Deli, pre-orders begin at noon on Wednesday, October 20th and pick-up will be from 5:30-6:30pm on Sunday, October 24th. Mama LA always sells out, so if you’re reading this, stop what you’re doing and get your pre-order in right now.
If you’re looking to dabble in spooky season, but not experience full-on frights, check out the Oddities Flea Market at the Globe Theater in DTLA this October 23rd and 24th. The event includes three curated floors of vendors displaying medical history ephemera, taxidermy, anatomical curiosities, jewelry, art, and more. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $45 for VIP, which grants you early access.
This coming Saturday and Sunday (October 23rd and 24th) join Sung Soon and The Feminist Center For Creative Work for a special at-home fundraising dinner with all proceeds going to support Salima Magazine. Tickets are $200 and include a multi-course Korean dinner delivered to your home, the first two issues of Salima Magazine, a special riso-printed menu, and more.
Not exactly pumped for a costume party inside your friend’s cramped apartment? Head to UnHoly Rollers this Sunday, October 24th instead. This gothic Halloween roller skate costume party is taking place at the LA Kings Burbank Sports Center and will feature house DJs, streetwear pop-up shops, free tarot card readings, and food provided by East Los Mosubi. Tickets are $15 at the door.
