Quentin Tarantino Doesn't Rule Out 'Kill Bill 3' As His Next Film But Says He's Ready "To Make A Comedy" First

Quentin Tarantino has seemingly never answered “No” to speculation about what his next (and possibly final) film project will be. It seems that whenever someone asks him if it’ll be “Star Trek” or “Vega Brothers” or even “Kill Bill Vol. 3,” Tarantino isn’t ready to rule out anything. But he always follows that up with a tease about what the next project might actually be, which in this case might be a…comedy?

You read that right. In a recent appearance at the Rome Film Festival (via Variety), Quentin Tarantino was asked about his next film project. And as always, he was coy about what it might actually be, but he did give a tease that perhaps it’ll be the first true comedy from the filmmaker.

Specifically, Tarantino was asked if “Kill Bill Vol. 3,” which he has talked about extensively in the past, could be the next feature? His response was vague and also interesting.

“Why not?” replied the filmmaker. “But first I want to make a comedy.”

Sure, Tarantino has included plenty of comedic bits in his films previously. Who can forget his iconic, hilarious monologue about Madonna from “Reservoir Dogs” or when he made someone getting their head blown off in “Pulp Fiction” laugh out loud funny? But as with the latter example, typically Tarantino’s style veers closer to violent, harsh situations that are somewhat over-the-top and fantastical. So, if he made a legit comedy, would he actually stop himself from including gore? Who knows?

He did go on to tease another project, but he wouldn’t say the context of where fans might see it, whether it be a feature, TV series, stage play, or something else entirely.

“It’s not like my next movie. It’s a piece of something else that I’m thinking about doing — and I’m not going to describe what it is,” Tarantino said. “But part of this thing, there is supposed to be a Spaghetti Western in it.”

He added, “I’m looking forward to shooting that [thing] because it’s going to be really fun. Because I want to shoot it in the Spaghetti Western style where everybody’s speaking a different language.”

But what about “Kill Bill Vol. 3?” As mentioned, Tarantino hasn’t been shy about sharing some of his ideas for the potential sequel film. However, we also know that the filmmaker is trying to wrap up his features career with a 10th film, and he has said previously that he wants to do something original and not tied to previous films. That said, can we honestly predict what that might be? Absolutely not. After “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood…” seemingly serving as his magnum opus, Tarantino quite possibly could revisit the worlds of “Kill Bill,” “Reservoir Dogs,” “Pulp Fiction,” or whatever other film he has more ideas about.

Of course, those might have to take a backseat for a while, as Tarantino has been upfront about his upcoming slate including two books and a potential TV series. So, no matter what, there’s likely no rush on that final film.
