Penn State Football commit Drew Allar is now the nation’s No. 1 quarterback in the 2022 recruiting cycle

Penn State football commit Drew Allar has skyrocketed up the recruiting rankings since his commitment to the Nittany Lions back in March, that climb continued on Wednesday, this time in the form of a fifth star.

247 Sports updated its rankings for the 2022 cycle on Wednesday, and one of the top recruiting services in the nation now considers Allar the top quarterback in the country.

Allar’s new ranking puts him at No. 12 nationally, second in the state of Ohio and No.1 among quarterbacks. The highest rated quarterback to sign with Penn State was Anthony Morelli back in 2004. He was rated as the No.15 player in the country, according to the 247 Sports composite.

Allar has been having an incredible senior season. His Medina Battling Bees are currently 9-0 and are ranked the third best team in Ohio according to MaxPreps. The newly minted 5-star has thrown for 2,927 yards with 31 touchdowns to only four interceptions. He has added seven rushing touchdowns.

The last nine months have been nothing short of amazing for Allar. He received his Penn State offer on Jan. 30, at the time, he was a lowly ranked 3-star with his most notable offer being Iowa. Fast-forward to today, and he has the honor of being the top quarterback in the country with offers from Notre Dame, Michigan, Texas A&M and Ohio State. He is also leading one of the best high school teams in the nation.

There is one person who is responsible for getting Allar to Happy Valley, and that would be offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich.

Yurcich was aware of Allar thanks to his time with Ohio State back in 2019. Understanding the talent Allar had, Yurcich made the Elite 11 finalist  one of his first offers after arriving at Penn State.

Allar is not the only headline from today. Running back commit Nick Singleton held onto his title as the top running back in the nation. He originally received that honor during a July update of the 247 Sports rankings.

Penn State’s 2022 class now holds the highest ranking backfield in the nation.
