NYHN Daily: Islanders Beat Blackhawks, Bossy Battles Cancer & More

The New York Islanders defeated the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday by score of 4-1. Netminder Ilya Sorokin stole the show as he stopped 39 shots and Oliver Wahlstrom netted two. Mike Bossy announces he is battling lung cancer.

New York Islanders legend Mike Bossy re vealed on Tuesday that he was stepping away from his role as a commentator for TVA’s coverage of the NHL as battles lung cancer. Bossy made the stunning announcement in an open letter on TVA Sports’ website. (NYI Hockey Now)

The Florida Panthers got an incredible start by 20-year old Spencer Knight on Tuesday against the rival Tampa Bay Lightning. It was Knight’s first start of the season and what a memorable night it was for him and his team. (Florida Hockey Now)

The Vegas Golden Knights saw their captain, Mark Stone, leave with an injury last Thursday. While there is not too much information about the injury, the good news is surgery will not be required. (Vegas Hockey Now)

With the Minnesota Wild trailing by two late in the third, the comeback of the season occurred as they scored twice, the last one with the net empty. The Winnipeg Jets thought they scored an empty-netter, but the goal was challenged for offsides and it was. Mike Smith was pulled in the Oilers game against the Ducks. This move sparked Edmonton to battle out of a hole and come from behind to win 6-5. Leon Draisaitl led the offense with two goals and two assists. (NHL)

The New Jersey Devils lost Jack Hughes to injury Tuesday night in a battle with the Seattle Kraken. He is considered day-to-day. In the win, Dawson Mercer scored his first career NHL goal. (NHL)
