Free-scoring Atalanta are Serie A's great entertainers, with Josip Ilicic back in the goals... Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should be a worried man after Man United were LUCKY to concede just four at Leicester

The pressure is mounting on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after Manchester United's slump continued at the weekend - and things don't get any easier tonight.

Having picked up just one point from their last three Premier League fixtures and lost five of their last seven games in all competitions, support for Solskjaer - at least among the fans - has started to wane.

The Red Devils have failed to overcome the likes of Leicester and West Ham in recent weeks and will now face Liverpool, Tottenham, Manchester City and Atalanta before the next international break.

In order to start getting the fanbase back on side, Solskjaer is desperate for a positive result against the Serie A side in their Champions League group game at Old Trafford this evening.

However, beating Atalanta is far from a given, with Gian Piero Gasperini's side having continued their fine form with a thumping 4-1 win over Empoli on Sunday afternoon.

As a result, they moved up to sixth position in the Serie A standings - eight points behind leaders AC Milan - and head to Manchester full of confidence.

They are also the current leaders of Champions League Group F, and one of only eight teams in the competition not to have not lost a game so far.

The Serie A side drew 2-2 away at Villarreal before overcoming Young Boys 1-0 in Bergamo before the international break.

Meanwhile, Solskjaer's side suffered an embarrassing 2-1 loss away at Young Boys in their opening match, before going on to beat Villarreal 2-1 at Old Trafford last month.

Atalanta pose a real threat. Not only to Manchester United's hopes of reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League, but to Solskjaer's job security too.

The result against Liverpool put them on the European map and they are looking to do it again

They are known for being Italy's big entertainers – a nickname they picked up after Gasperini took over the reins at the club.

The 63-year-old manager has created a team that are focused on playing an attacking style of football and they are capable of going toe-to-toe with anyone.

Perhaps the most impressive example of this came against Liverpool in a group game last year - Atalanta scored twice in four minutes at Anfield to seal a surprise win, having been thrashed 5-0 by the Reds at home a few weeks earlier.

They also impressed the season before last, having only missed out on a semi-final spot when big spenders PSG scored a stoppage-time winner to knock them out.

Gasperini's success over the years has gained the attention of Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel. The Blues boss recently referred to Gasperini as 'something special'.

Speaking about the Atalanta manager, Tuchel said: 'Is Gasperini my favourite coach? I didn't say that. But when we played against them (during Tuchel's time at PSG), it was clearly something special.

'Maybe some aspects of his credo go against our ideas, but he is very successful and deserves compliments for his work.

'Besides, he is a wonderful person, very humble. I have a lot of respect for Italian coaches and clubs.'

Gasperini's tactics have played a defining role in the club's recent success and could cause Manchester United some issues tonight.

Atalanta typically play a 3-4-3 formation but are known for being fluid in their structure. They predominantly play out wide and look to overload on the wings.

They also look to deploy an aggressive and threatening style by encouraging their centre-backs to overlap in attack.

Their intent to get forward and take the game to United is likely to be problematic for Solskjaer's men given their defensive frailty last time out.

The Red Devils conceded four goals against Leicester on Saturday, with fit-again captain Harry Maguire responsible for three of those.

First, he was robbed of possession for Youri Tielemans' equaliser. Then he failed to keep hold of Jamie Vardy for their third. Finally he allowed Patson Daka to get the better of him for the Foxes' fourth.

Given Raphael Varane has been ruled out with a groin injury for the next few weeks, it seems likely that Maguire will be paired alongside Victor Lindelof once again.

United will also have to manage Josip Ilicic - he bagged a brace against Empoli on the weekend

United must fix their defensive structure to be in with a chance of competing tonight, with Atalanta well aware that a win would keep put them on the brink of reaching the knockout stage again.

United will also have to manage Josip Ilicic, who has returned to action after a knee injury and a prolonged break for unspecified personal reasons.

Ilicic - who scored against Liverpool last term - bagged a brace against Empoli at the weekend and will head to Old Trafford looking to continue his good form.

Solskjaer may have promised a response from his side, but Atalanta are primed to inflict more misery on the United manager and his underperforming stars.
