Philadelphia Flyers center Kevin Hayes will be earning $9 million for the 2021-22 season, writes Ryan Mulligan for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

For the second straight year he will be the highest-paid player on the team.

Hayes is starting the third year of a seven-year contract.  It’s expected abdominal surgery will keep him out of the first 10 games of the season.

New acquisition Ryan Ellis, from Nashville, makes the list of highest-paid Flyers player at No. 2, earning $7.7 million this season.

Defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen, also new, made the list, at No. 5, taking home a $5.4 million salary.

Longtime team captain Claude Giroux is in the final year of his eight-year contract and finds himself eighth on the list this season.

Jakub Voracek, key to the Flyers offense, left Philadelphia after 10 years for Columbus. Last year, he was the fourth-highest-paid player, at $6.25 million.

Goalie Carter Hart and winger Joel Farabee didn’t make the highest-paid list for 2021-22. Nevertheless, the two young cornerstones of the team will see their annual salaries increase for the remainder of their contracts.

In the beginning of September, Farbee signed a six-year $30 million contract extension.
