Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street airs heartbreaking scenes for Dev Alahan tonight (October 20) as he faces the consequences of his big decision.

Dev was involved in a terrifying road accident with his twins Aadi (Adam Hussain) and Asha (Tanisha Gorey) earlier this week. He was first to free himself but then faced a choice over which of his children he should try to save first.

As Aadi was conscious and Asha wasn't, Dev decided that his daughter needed him more and focused his efforts on getting her out of the car. Aadi protested that it would be better to help him, then they could both save Asha together, but Dev disagreed.

Once Dev had freed Asha, it was too late to go back to help Aadi as the car exploded.

While many details of the story's aftermath are being kept secret, show bosses have confirmed that Corrie fans can expect some tense scenes this evening.

Emergency services arrive at the crash site, but the big question is whether they'll be able to save Aadi.

Later on, a terrified Dev waits for news at the hospital.

Jimmi Harkinsin, who plays Dev, recently explained his character's decision: "It's a knee-jerk reaction from Dev – who do you try to get to safety? His daughter isn't talking, she is not responding and I really do think that is the only thing that Dev could have done.

"It wasn't a question of choice or favouritism, it was who needed his help more at that time. He had to pull her out and he was going to come straight back for his son but then the car explodes."

Asked how Dev feels when Aadi is rushed to hospital, Jimmi replied: "He doesn't feel guilty but he is hurt and he is distraught because it is really painful to see anything happen to your children. Dev wishes it was him and wishes he could take his son's place. It's an honest pain that he feels."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
