After Cody Bellinger’s three-run home run dug the Dodgers out of the hole, Mookie Betts’ RBI double put them over the top as Los Angeles defeated the Braves, 6-5, Tuesday in Game 3 of the NLCS at Dodger Stadium.
Staring a 3-0 series deficit in the face, the defending World Series champs trailed 5-2 in the eighth inning. With Will Smith and AJ Pollack on base and one out, Bellinger hit a 399-foot home run to right-centerfield tying the game.
After Chris Taylor singled and stole second and Matt Beaty grounded out, Betts jumped on the first pitch he saw, a 92-miles-per-hour sinker, and drove it into the gap in right-centerfield for an RBI double that put the Dodgers ahead.
Betts said the team was focused on grabbing a win not avoiding the consequences of falling behind 3-0.
“I think everybody’s super aware of it. It’s impossible not to be aware of it. But I think that’s a weak way to think of things,” he said. “I think our mindset has been why are we going to focus on that when we are here now, we can win the game now, and all it takes is a hit or two, and then you get some energy, and then you forget, you forget that you’re down 0-2 and whatnot.”
So I think that’s one of our strong suits is not worrying about what happened yesterday, focusing on right now.
Kenley Jansen worked a perfect ninth to seal the win.
