High school scores from Tuesday, Oct. 19: Apponequet cross country captures sweep

Here's a look at Tuesday's high school highlights for SouthCoast teams: 

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Old Rochester 15, Dighton-Rehoboth 50

Old Rochester's Julia Sheridan took first in 20:43 while Hanna Whalley was second (20:58), Corrine Robert third (21:15) and Maddie Connor fourth (21:42). Alexia Gonsalves took seventh (22:22). 

Apponequet 15, Somerset Berkley 50 

Apponequet 17, GNB Voc-Tech 44

GNB Voc-Tech 28, Somerset Berkley 50 

Ava Wisniewski ran a 22:16 to beat both GNB Voc-Tech and Somerset Berkley and power the Lakers (5-2) to a sweep. Laurane Tranchet was second against both teams (23:13) while Isabella Sergio took third against Voc-Tech and fourth against Somerset Berkley (24:11). Aurora Corbett (26:06), Madeline Polochick (26:10) and Lily Johns (26:11) also contributed. Against Somerset Berkley, Voc-Tech’s Elena Aponte took third place in front of Autumn Racine (fourth), Arden Hill (sixth), Abigail Simmons (seventh) and Danica Lambert (eighth). The Bears (4-3, 1-3 SCC) and Apponequet both visit Seekonk on Oct. 26.

Fairhaven 19, Case 48

Maya Medeiros won in 22:02 to power the Blue Devils to their second win of the season. Lily LaFountain was third while Samantha Sauve took fourth. Fairhaven (2-5) hosts Bourne on Oct. 26. 

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Old Rochester 27, Dighton-Rehoboth 30

Tyler Young won in 17:39 while John Kassabian was third (18:01). Murray Copps (sixth; 18:15), Torsten Brickley (eighth; 18:43) and Teddy Carroll (ninth; 18:49) also contributed.

Apponequet 26, Somerset Berkley 39

Apponequet 19, GNB Voc-Tech 39

Somerset Berkley 18, GNB Voc-Tech 45

Apponequet’s Ayden Fournier ran a 17:54 to finish first against Voc-Tech and second against Somerset Berkley to pace the Lakers in a sweep. Nathan Levesque (17:58), Lucas Quinn (18:02), Aidan Miller (19:34) and Nathan Furtado (19:37) also finished in the top 10 for Apponequet (4-3), which visits Seekonk on Oct. 26 with Voc-Tech (2-5, 0-4 SCC).

Fairhaven 17, Case 46

Owen Benoit, Maison Sweet and Adin Monroe went one, two and three for the Blue Devils (5-2). Tyler Viera and Josh Arruda also ran well. Fairhaven hosts Bourne on Oct. 26. 

BOYS SOCCER

Bridgewater-Raynham 2, New Bedford 1

Michael Tavares scored a goal, but it wasn’t enough as the Whalers suffered their second straight loss. New Bedford (7-5-1, 3-3-1 SEC) hosts Dartmouth on Thursday for Senior Night.

Cape Cod Tech 6, Old Colony 1

The Cougars fell to 2-12, 1-8 in the Mayflower. They host Cape Cod Tech on Thursday in a rematch. 

GIRLS SOCCER

Bridgewater-Raynham 2, New Bedford 1

Coach Andrea Nogueira praised the play of Caitlyn Cordeiro, Saige Morro, Calista Pacheco, Tari Pereira and Haven Lopes. The Whalers (0-15, 0-7 SEC) visit Dartmouth on Thursday at 6 p.m. 

Old Colony 4, Cape Cod Tech 0

Ellie White scored her first career varsity goal and also added an assist. Ava Teixeira (goal), Melanie Weed (goal and assist) and Averi Oliveria (goal and assist) also contributed for the Cougars (4-7, 3-5 Mayflower). 

FIELD HOCKEY

Apponequet 2, Seekonk 1

Katie Wisniewski and Riley Levrault both scored for the Lakers with assists from Sadie Pires and Hannah Procaccini. Kelsie Couto had seven saves in net for Apponequet (3-7-3). 

Dighton-Rehoboth 4, Fairhaven 0

Coach Julie Sunderland praised the play of Kat Tortorella, Cayla Moraux and Sam Brodeur as the Blue Devils dropped to 2-6-4, 2-6-1 in the SCC.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Bishop Feehan 3, Bishop Stang 1

Mae Lima went over 100 kills for the season with 10 in Stang’s 25-21, 18-25, 25-18, 25-20 loss to the Shamrocks. She also had eight digs. Alee Braga (three aces, one kill, 26 assists and six digs), Ellie Sullivan (four aces and 20 digs) and Izzy Paiva (two aces, seven kills and eight digs) also contributed. The Spartans (5-9, 2-7 CCL) visit Archbishop Williams on Thursday.
