The Boston Celtics have reversed course on Jabari Parker, re-signing him after initially releasing him this past weekend.

The roster spot they had opened up is now filled once more with the 26-year-old reclaiming his spot on the Cs bench.

Parker had just started for Boston this past Friday in their preseason finale against the Miami Heat at the FTX Arena. He played 26 minutes but scored just four points and collected two assists and a rebound.

Hardwood Houdini had initially projected a return of Parker to the Boston Celtics

Granted, I did initially see Parker and Grant Williams as potential goners before the preseason began. But as it progressed, I believed that the pair of power forwards seemingly did enough to keep their roster spots.

Williams would have needed to be traded, while Parker’s non-guarantee made him a potential cut candidate.

This past weekend was a shocker seeing the Chicago Native get cut, and it raised questions about what his future would hold for him. While he is in his athletic prime by age, serious injuries have derailed his career thus far.

And while he carved out a role in Sacramento, it was in ultimately meaningless minutes for a non-contender.

It’s a major victory in his career to earn a new contract after initially being cut. Clearly the market didn’t offer anything enticing enough to justify it.

With a new lease on life in green, Parker could pay off the faith had in him by whoever vouched for his second chance.
