As the North Country continues to struggle with a significant jump in COVID-19 cases, Walmart has closed its Gorham location until Thursday morning.
Denise Vallee serves as the town manager of Gorham and said Walmart has decided to temporarily close after experiencing a rise in COVID-19 positive cases among employees.
The store closed at 2 p.m. on Tuesday and is planned to reopen Thursday morning. Vallee said the company will conduct a deep clean of the location.
She said Walmart is Gorham’s biggest grocery store and there are many people who rely on it for their food, medication and other needs.
Gorham has joined Berlin and other Coos County cities and towns that have experienced a spike in COVID-19 cases in recent weeks.
“Things have really spiked,” Vallee said. “And it’s a huge concern for the number of hospital beds available at Androscoggin Valley Hospital. We’re recommending that people wash their hands, stay socially distanced, get vaccinated and wear a mask when inside.”
The pharmacy will remain open for curbside pickup.
