MAOCN, Ga. -- Today two state representatives came to speak on an issue that they say is of the utmost importance: affordable health care.
Both State Representatives Matthew Wilson who represents Dekalb and Fulton Counties, and Miriam Paris who represents Bibb County, spoke on the issue.
" We are here today because health care could not be more important of an issue, access to quality affordable health care determines whether Georgians as individuals, families, and communities actually have the chance to thrive," said Wilson.
Wilson would like to see Governor Brian Kemp include medicare expansion in the special legislative session that will happen in the next few weeks.
"If we expand Medicaid we would be able to give 500,000 Georgians access to health care and at the same time, 100 percent would be paid for by the federal government. Georgia would net $700 million dollars and create 64,000 jobs," said Wilson.
Miriam Paris agreed with Wilson and says that expansion of Medicaid is "essential."
"We can't wait, we are in the middle of a pandemic still and we have Georgians going to hospitals ramping up tremendous medical bills, families are in financial crisis, there is nothing more needed," urged Paris.
Both representatives say that this issue can not wait until the regular session in January but instead needs to be included in the agenda for the special legislative session on November 3.
