Paddy Pimblett echoes same sentiment as Sean O'Malley: 'I'm not fighting a top 10 on the money I'm on'

Like Sean O'Malley, Paddy Pimblett is not willing to fight a ranked opponent without an increase in pay.

O’Malley turned heads when he claimed that his level of competition hasn’t increased since he gets paid the same for every opponent and Pimblett (17-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC) appears to have a similar mentality.

The former Cage Warriors champion burst into the UFC scene in September when he knocked out Luigi Vendramini in the first round for one of the most memorable promotional debuts in history. The charismatic Scouser’s popularity and social media following skyrocketed and just one bout into his four-fight deal, Pimblett’s value has vastly increased.

When asked if he would be interested in getting fast-tracked, Pimblett said not if the numbers don’t match the magnitude of the fight.

“No, I think they’ll do the opposite,” Pimblett said on the “Anything Goes with James English” podcast. They rushed Till and it’s hindered him where look what they’re doing with O’Malley. Slowly, but surely he’s fighting different people, different people.”

He continued, “F*ck that, I’m not fighting a top 10 on the money I’m on, lad. Nick Peet was saying he’d like to see me against Tony Ferguson and, lad, I’d like to see me against Tony Ferguson, but not on the contract I’m on now. F*ck that. Get paid that money to fight Tony Ferguson, lad. Yeah, he’s still one of the best 155’ers in the world, lad. I want f*cking six figures, lad, then I’m fighting him.”

Both O’Malley and Pimblett have found ways to be successful in and out of the cage which has separated them from plenty of other prospects. Pimblett, who’s already amassed 764,000 Instagram followers after just one octagon bout, recently signed a “seven-figure deal” with Barstool Sports to be a brand ambassador and content creator.

Meanwhile, fans will get to see O’Malley against ranked opposition when he opens up the UFC 269 main card against No. 15 bantamweight Raulian Paiva on Dec. 11.
