Pistons' Cade Cunningham Out for Season Opener Against Bulls

Cade Cunningham out for season opener against Bulls originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

The Chicago Bulls will face a short-handed Detroit Pistons team in Wednesday’s regular-season opener.

Tuesday evening, it was revealed that Pistons No. 1 overall pick Cade Cunningham will miss the contest with a sprained right ankle. Cunningham sustained the injury, which kept him sidelined all of preseason, during the first week of training camp.

The Bulls, meanwhile, roll into the opener at close to full-strength. Troy Brown Jr. is listed as questionable with an undisclosed illness, as of this writing. And Coby White remains out as he recovers from offseason shoulder surgery.

But Patrick Williams, who returned from a sprained ankle of his own for the team’s preseason finale after missing the previous three games, went unlisted on the injury report for the contest. Backup center Tony Bradley, who missed three of the Bulls’ four preseason games with a lower back strain, was also unlisted on the injury report.

The Bulls have won their last seven head-to-head matchups with the Pistons dating back to the start of the 2019-20 season. Extending that win streak to eight on Wednesday would strike the right tone for a season that carries lofty expectations.
