Senate candidate Herschel Walker, a former NFL player and a favorite of former President Donald Trump, said Republicans need to focus on the future instead of debating the 2020 election.
The GOP candidate in Georgia broke with Trump over his claims the November contest was stolen and recently issued a statement in which he said Republicans “will not be voting” in the 2022 and 2024 elections if officials don’t “solve” allegations of fraud in the 2020 contest.
Walker said on Tuesday that this is “not the right message” to voters.

“I think everyone’s got to get out and vote,” Walker told Fox News’s Brian Kilmeade on his radio show. “You know, we can’t look at the past. We can’t continue to look at the past.”
Trump endorsed Walker for the Senate seat occupied by Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock, who is up for reelection in 2022 after winning a special election this year.
Walker said he’s “honored” by Trump’s endorsement but that he needs to operate his campaign his own way.

“He endorsed me because he knows I’m the right man for the job,” Walker said. “But he also knows Herschel Walker is going to do it Herschel Walker’s way, meaning I’m gonna go out and I’m gonna run for the seat. This is not Donald Trump running for it — it’s Herschel Walker running for it.”
Election officials spanning from the state to federal level, including those in Trump’s own government, have said they didn’t find evidence to support his claim of a stolen election.
Georgia’s Fulton County has been a battleground for the Trump camp’s election fraud claims. A judge recently dismissed a lawsuit alleging possible fraudulent absentee ballots there.
