Ron-Thorben Hoffmann: 7/10
Relatively easy night for Hoffmann, made another great fingertip save to ensure he kept a clean sheet but not particularly busy and made everything look easy.
Carl Winchester: 8/10
Standard performance from Winchester now, extremely confident in possession and always keen to get forward to support the attack. Made one great covering tackle in the first half.
Tom Flanagan: 7/10
Very comfortable, not troubled by academy product Mandron and almost scored from a corner but his early header was well saved by the home ‘keeper.
Callum Doyle: 7/10
Another accomplished performance without being overly troubled. Even stepped into midfield near the end following Bailey Wright’s introduction.
Dennis Cirkin: 6/10
Quiet night for the left back.
Luke O’Nien: 7/10
Hard-working display in the middle of the pitch, hassling the home side and winning possession often.
Dan Neil: 8/10
Great run and assist for the second goal, showed his class all night and was a little lucky to escape a yellow card but it was good to see some extra bite in his game with a few crunching tackles.
Aiden McGeady: 7/10
Clever ball forward to set up Dajaku’s run for Sunderland’s fourth, not his busiest night but still had too much for Crewe.
Alex Pritchard: 8/10
Best display in a Sunderland shirt for Pritchard. Got two assists and was busy and inventive playing just off Stewart.
Aiden O’Brien: 7/10
Gave good balance to the three behind Stewart with a hard-working display. Linked up well with Winchester on the right.
Ross Stewart: 8/10
Two goals for the big man. Typically energetic display and could have had a hat-trick but tried to play in McGeady instead.
Subs
Denver Hume: 7/10
Came on with half-an-hour to go and got in a bit of a duel with the Crewe right-back, which he came out on top of.
Leon Dajaku: 7/10
Replaced Pritchard following the third goal and scored a cracker after breaking from a Crewe corner to smash home the fourth.
Bailey Wright: 6/10
As usual, Wright came on as Sunderland looked to see out a win and helped the team keep a clean sheet.
Man of the Match: Alex Pritchard
This could have gone to most of the team tonight but I thought Pritchard was the catalyst for the win tonight. Not just for his two assists but he was involved in all of Sunderland’s best moves until he came off after the third goal.
