Material You Widgets On Their Way For Google Drive, Gmail & YouTube Music

Google has officially started rolling out Android 12 today, to all Pixels that are still supported. That would be Pixel 3 and later. Of course, a big part of Android 12 is Material You. Google said all of its apps would be updated for Material You by the time Android 12 launched. Which is mostly true. But we’re starting to see the Material You widgets coming now. With Google Drive, Gmail and YouTube Music getting theirs very soon.

The Made by Google Twitter account posted a tweet assembling the Avengers Android 12 Material You Widgets. Which included screenshots from many of the Google apps. But most notably was the Gmail app which doesn’t have the Material You widget yet. And the same goes for Google Drive and YouTube Music.

These are coming, but we don’t know when exactly.

The widgets will match your icons and other Material You aspects

Since it is using Material You, the widgets will change when you change your wallpaper. Which is pretty insanely cool.

The YouTube Music app will show you the most recently played song, and thumbs up and play/pause button next to it. Then on the second row there are shortcuts to different playlists that you can start playing.

For Gmail, you’ll see widgets that show your inbox, with different shortcuts on the side. Like Compose, Google Chat, and Google Meet.

And finally, Google Drive will show a search bar, along with search results for different documents, which is also insanely helpful. There’s also an upload button available.

The Google Photos widget is also pretty handy. Showing random pictures from your library in a few different shapes on your home screen. Now this isn’t really a Material You widget since it is all picture, and no real border around it that would tie into Material You.

Material You is finally here for everyone, and it’s pretty darn awesome.
