Here's when Bruins goalie Linus Ullmark will make his Boston debut

Charlie McAvoy couldn’t be happier after signing a massive eight-year contract extension with the Bruins

The Boston Bruins have a weird schedule to begin the 2021-22 NHL season.

They are one of just three teams that's played only one game entering Tuesday. The rest of the league has played at least twice and many teams have played three games already.

Rookie goaltender Jeremy Swayman started the season opener last Saturday night and helped the Bruins beat the Dallas Stars 3-1 at TD Garden.

Why DeBrusk's stellar season opener is exactly what Bruins needed

Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy told reporters Tuesday that Swayman will get another start in Wednesday night's road game versus the Philadelphia Flyers. Cassidy also noted that netminder Linus Ullmark will make his Bruins debut Friday night against his old team, the Buffalo Sabres.

The B's signed Ullmark to a four-year, $20 million contract in free agency. He was outplayed by Swayman in training camp and the preseason, which made the rookie the logical choice to start on Opening Night.

We shouldn't make too much of Ullmark's recent struggles, though. He's on a new team playing in front of new defensemen with a different system than Buffalo. The stats don't lie. He was excellent for the Sabres last season despite the fact they were a historically bad team. That's an impressive accomplishment.

The Sabres almost certainly will be a bottom-dweller this season, too, making them a good opponent for Ullmark to face first and build some confidence.
