KNOTT COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Ambassador Kelly Craft is the 30th United States Ambassador to the United Nations and the first woman to serve as ambassador to Canada.

”I believe in these students, and I believe in their mission, and their Christian values,” said Ambassador Kelly Craft. “I know each student here as the potential to be a future leader of America.”

Craft talked with students and staff at Alice Lloyd College’s Free Enterprise Day Convocation. She talked about her time serving under former President Donald Trump.

”I think it’s really important to talk about NATO in light of our current situation in Afghanistan,” she said.

She said on 9/11, the allies came together to defend America in Afghanistan. Saying it was the first time in the history of NATO that Article 5 was used during 9/11. She spoke to students about her time in foreign countries.

”I know this so well from serving as the US/UN ambassador,” she said. “The way that when I arrive in a country that they feel hope knowing that the US/UN ambassador has arrived.”

She said now that the U.S. is out of Afghanistan, she is worried other countries might try to take over.

”Being this breeding ground and also a country that is rich in rare earth minerals,” she added. “You have China coming in, you have Iran breeding more of their terrorists.”

She spoke about Operation WARP Speed and called it the greatest health achievement in the world.

”It was great to know that the U.S. could provide these vaccines, we helped Taiwan, you know Taiwan couldn’t receive any from China,” she added. “And other countries that were afraid of the Chinese Communist Party would not step up and assist Taiwan.”

Nearly 500 students sat attended convocation and even some asked her questions.

”The role models that took the time to talk to me and the importance of someone that cares and will listen,” she said.
