A onetime Gotham citizen is returning to Fox, by way of The Resident‘s fifth season: Actress Kaley Ronayne has been tapped for a recurring role on the medical drama, TVLine has exclusively learned.
Ronayne will appear as Cade, a badass emergency room doctor described as an “action heroine.” Strong and athletic, Cade takes no prisoners, but also has her own brand of no-nonsense empathy for her patients. She’s a rational problem-solver and, physically, a daredevil.
As Resident co-showrunner Peter Elkoff tells TVLine, Cade will have a large presence in the second half of Season 5, where she’ll “help us do one of those thriller-y arcs that we’ve done in the past.” He further describes the doc as “mysterious” and “very guarded about her past,” while her methodology “is not like our other characters.”
“She’s going to attract a lot of attention while trying to keep a low profile, which is sometimes complicated,” Elkoff continues. “I just imagine that the audience is going to have really strong feelings — a lot of theories and a lot of predictions.”
In addition to Gotham — where she popped up as Oswald Cobblepot’s stepsister, Sasha Van Dahl — Ronayne’s TV credits include Army Wives, Quarry and episodes of Nashville, Chicago P.D. and Blue Bloods. Most recently, she portrayed trailblazing aerospace nurse Dee O’Hara in Disney+’s historical drama The Right Stuff.
The Resident continues tonight (Fox, 8/7c) with Episode 5 of its fifth season, which Elkoff previously teased will “put a new spin on the show.”
“We’re going to employ a wrinkle in storytelling that I think will really excite the audience and turn our show upside down a little bit,” Elkoff told TVLine at the time.
Conrad’s new love interest?
Probably. They’ll give her something else to do first, if they are smart, to ease her in, and have him go on a date with another woman first, to take the heat, but, by the end of the season, they’ll likely kiss.
Nearly every show does this. Maybe she’s into women.
Upgrade
Lesbian warrior?
They sure have not learned anything from other shows on how to wait just a little bit before adding a replacement… I wish her best of luck, she is likely gonna need it with the hate she is about to meet… I on the other hand have no desire to watch on. Season 4 works as an end to me…
I do think adding her in this soon after is just gross… and they should have looked at how badly it has gone in the past for shows trying that…
I’m about through with The Resident as well. It used to be one of my favorite shows, but something has definitely changed after season 3. The storylines are just not good or interesting anymore; it’s just falling flat for me–maybe it’s the departure of some of the characters.
Agreed. The first few seasons were teally good but then it seemed to have become just another typical medical show. They turned Dr. Bell into a nice guy and the writing also became less cutting edge and more bland.
Hopefully she’s more interesting than Billie, who so far does nothing for me except aggravate.
We want Eamily back she was also great in revenge
I think the writers will try at some point to give Conrad a new love interest, but he’ll eventually realize that he’s not ready to move on from his history with Nic and will end up alone, like the Nashville writers did with Deacon.
I think that depends on how many more seasons it will be renewed
No, I don’t think so. In an interview, the showrunner said that Conrad will be in a relationship by the end of the season.
As soon as I read this, I presumed it would be Conrad’s love interest. Also it sounds like she’s a “Cain replacement”. I don’t need another lesbian love interest as I’m already seeing that on New Amsterdam
Wow what an exit. Not going to lie I was so disappointed. All they had been thru. I do like Conrad and the others so I will keep watching.
Oh the caterpillar eyebrows and no widow’s peak please…can’t Conrad go off campus for a love interest or been a date interest?
Billie is a good Friend, Cade Should be in a relationship with him.
Love Conrad and Cade chemistry please
