Georgia special teams coordinator Scott Cochran is back with the football team after it was reported in August he was taking time to “prioritize his mental health and well-being.”
DawgHQ was the first to report the news. Dawgs247 has confirmed Cochran, the former Alabama special teams coordinator, is back in the building.
In Cochran’s absence, former South Carolina and Florida coach Will Muschamp, a senior defensive analyst for the Bulldogs, has been moved into an on-field role. According to the report, Muschamp is expected to continue to work both the defense and special teams.
Cochran is in his second season as Georgia’s special teams coach after 13 seasons as Alabama’s strength and conditioning coach. Cochran left Alabama in 2020 after wanting to make a move to an on-field role but was unable to do so at Alabama. Cochran became one of the nation’s highest-paid and best known strength coaches at Alabama, appearing in commercials and being featured on the Bryant-Denny Stadium sideboards during games.
The defense has been the talk of Georgia’s undefeated run as former Georgia national championship-winning coach Vince Dooley said last week it is the best Bulldogs defense he has ever seen. Brad Nessler of the “SEC on CBS” says the Bulldogs and Alabama are the two best teams in the country.
