A 33-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman have been arrested in connection with the death of a 17-year-old girl in Chillicothe, who police say ingested counterfeit prescription pills.
Chillicothe police report officers responded to a call in the 400 block of Cherry Street late Sunday morning that a juvenile was unresponsive and not breathing. When officers arrived, the girl was dead.
Police arrested the 23-year-old woman for the distribution of a dangerous drug and will seek charges for murder in the death. A search warrant led to the discovery of more counterfeit pills and the arrest of the 33-year-old man. Both are awaiting the filing of formal charges while incarcerated in the Daviess-DeKalb County Regional Jail.
Chillicothe police says the counterfeit pills can contain dangerous amounts of controlled substances that can lead to an overdose or death. Officers have responded to other reports of overdosing on counterfeit pills recently, but those did not result in deaths.
