'The Great' Season 2 Trailer: Catherine Fights For Her Crown In Hulu's Hit Series

Elle Fanning and Tony McNamara’s royal comedy “The Great” wowed audiences in its first season. Catherine’s dramatized battle for power has led to a second season with lots of promise. The series revealed bits and pieces of new information in an early teaser. This includes the addition of Gillian Anderson to a strong cast to play Catherine’s mother and a shift in Catherine’s focus.

Now, Hulu has presented more information about the direction of the show’s second season. “The Great” shifts from solely a battle between Catherine and Peter (Nicholas Hoult) to Fanning’s character fighting for Russia.

Or rather, Catherine battling with the high powers in Russia to promote change. Her fight to bring enlightenment to her people will compete with her changing relationship with her husband and her impending birth. Images released for the season show Catherine forming a different environment from Peters’ in the early episodes. Said trailer adds more details to the extremes that Catherine will face as she pushes a new leadership.

Fanning and Hoult both return for more “huzzahs,” as do Phoebe FoxAdam GodleyGwilym LeeCharity WakefieldDouglas Hodge, Sacha DhawanBayo Gbadamosi, and Belinda Bromilow.

Here’s the synopsis for Season 2:

In season two of “The Great,” Catherine finally takes the Russian throne for her own — but if she thought coup-ing her husband was difficult, it’s nothing compared to the realities of ‘liberating’ a country that doesn’t want to be. She’ll battle her court, her team, even her own mother in a bid to bring the enlightenment to Russia. Meanwhile she’ll also battle her heart as Peter slowly transitions from much-hated husband, to prisoner? Ally? Lover? Ultimately Catherine will learn that to change a country, you must let it change you, that there is a fine line between idealism and delusion, and that becoming ‘Great’, will ask more of her than she could have imagined.
