Tuesday BP: Will the Giants bring back Bryant, Belt & Posey?

Good morning, baseball fans!

The postseason is still raging on, but for San Francisco Giants fans, the focus has already shifted to who will be on the team next year. With so many players heading into free agency, we’re sure to see some changes over the coming months. In particular, to the rotation. Farhan Zaidi listed that as their top priority going into the offseason, as everyone but Logan Webb will be a free agent.

Another high priority is going to be Buster Posey, whom Zaidi credited as the best catcher in the game during the 2021 season, leading many to assume that the team will either use their team option to keep him for the 2022 season, or offer him an extension. Posey has said that he’s going to take his time and discuss the matter with his family, but it seems pretty likely that Posey will be a Giant for as long as he’d like to be.

Brandon Belt is another beloved player that the Giants are working on bringing back, though the answers in that regard were not so strongly stated. Zaidi indicated that there had already been some dialogue with Belt’s representatives during the season, and that they hope for more productive dialogue during the offseason.

On the less likely side, we have Kris Bryant, who joined the team at the trade deadline this year and will be a highly sought after free agent. Zaidi acknowledged and praised Bryant’s willingness and ability to play wherever he was needed and what he brought to the team. But he also hedged, noting that Bryant’s talent will make him a target for multiple teams, and Zaidi said they will have to see how the market plays out.
