Borussia Dortmund head coach Marco Rose heaped praise on the leadership quality Marco Reus has shown during the press conference leading up to the game against Ajax in the UEFA Champions League.

Ahead of Borussia Dortmund’s important game against Ajax in the UEFA Champions League, head coach Marco Rose was quick to highlight club captain Marco Reus for some well deserved praise. Rose spoke in glowing terms about Reus’ leadership ability on and off the pitch for the club. Rose called Reus an “outstanding footballer” that he can always rely on.

He is our captain and he plays and acts like that. I can rely on him 100 percent. He is an outstanding footballer, he is at the service of the team and he is in a good shape. That’s the most important thing for me. He’s in really good form. If he’s missing, like in Gladbach, we’re missing a lot. Marco is an important glue that holds the team together.” Marco Rose.

The Borussia Dortmund captain has been the club’s talisman for some time now. And he showed his quality once again at the weekend with his stunning strike for Borussia Dortmund’s first goal in the 3-1 win over Mainz.

Reus recently became the fifth player in the club’s history to score over 100 goals in the Bundesliga, and also the first to reach a century of goals and assists for the club. His overall impact on the club cannot be overstated. Despite a variety of injuries, he has come back to become a key member of the squad and in many ways identifies with and embodies the Borussia Dortmund spirit.

Marco Rose’s statements about the Germany international ring particularly true regarding just how much the team miss Reus when he is out through injury or when his form takes a slight dip. Reus has shown time and time again that on his day he can be a game changer for his club, which underlines just why Rose has put so much faith and trust in him as Borussia Dortmund captain.
