Swansea, Glasgow and Tenby are among the top 10 staycation spots in the UK to visit this autumn, new research by Tripadvisor has found.
According to the travel company's Autumn Travel Index, 62% of Brits are planning to travel around the country this autumn, with over a third (37%) of younger people saying they intend to spend more on their autumn trips than they did in 2019. From leaf-peeping in the city to cosy countryside getaways, it seems Brits are looking to fully embrace all the cooler season has to offer (even if it means packing an extra coat).
Cardiff in Wales scooped first place, while Belfast and London came in second and third spots, respectively. While cities dominated the list, some beautiful coastal regions also came in the top 10, including Tenby and Swansea in Wales and Ayr in Scotland, too.
Elsewhere in their research, Tripadvisor also found that ghost and vampire tours, and spooky castles and cultural tours are the top trending experience types travellers are booking for Autumn, meanwhile Brits are spending £445 on average on their Autumn trip — 4% more than global travellers.
"While Summer is over and out, Brits aren't planning on stuffing their suitcases back into the loft anytime soon," Tripadvisor say. "As with Summer, with so much uncertainty surrounding COVID-19, staycations are still the trip of choice for Brits this Autumn - 62% of Brits are planning to travel domestically (more than two hours from home), while one in seven (14%) are planning on going abroad."
