The Bilbao Opera is set to open a production of Offenbach’s “Les Contes d’Hoffmann” on Oct. 23 at the Euskalduna Bilbao.

The work, which marks the first production for the Bilbao season, will star Michael Fabiano as Hoffmann, Jessica Pratt as the four heroines, Simón Orfila as the four villains, and Elena Zidhkova as the Muse.

The cast will be rounded out by Mikeldi Atxalandabaso, José Manuel Díaz, Moisés Marín, Fernando Latorre, and Gexan Etxabe.

Carlo Montanaro will conduct a new version that is inspired by the original score and considered the most legitimate version of the opera. The version that will be presented was edited by Jules Paul Barbier, Michael Kaye, and Jean-Christophe Keck for Schott and showcases new arias.

The new production will be directed by Vincent Huguet, who makes his ABAO debut.

“Les Contes d’Hoffmann” will be presented five times until Nov. 1, 2021.
