With large portions of its staff and student body absent from school due to COVID-19 quarantine requirements, all Adna School District students have been temporarily shifted to remote learning effective Tuesday, Oct. 19.

As of Monday afternoon, 28% of Adna Middle/High School’s student body and 19% of Adna Elementary School student body were absent from school due to COVID-19 quarantine requirements, according to a message the district sent to parents.

Additionally, 25% of the middle/high school’s staff were affected by quarantine requirements as of Monday, and the district has had difficulty finding substitutes due to the impact of COVID-19 on the district’s certified and classified staff.

“It has been decided that remote learning is both responsible and necessary. With the number of students affected, it is our best option for the health and safety of our school as recommended by the Lewis County Department of Health,” said Superintendent Thad Nelson in a written statement.

The shift will begin Tuesday, Oct. 19, and students are scheduled to return to in-person learning on Friday, Oct. 29.

“The 10 day time period will ensure that the buildings are thoroughly cleaned and reduce any possible further spread of COVID-19 throughout the District,” said Nelson.
