Subject: Abortion: America’s War Against the Unborn

Jeremiah 31:33 “I will put My law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they shall be My people.”

“Much of the discussion about abortion is about the law. And of course we will talk about that tonight. But there is another law I want you to consider as you listen. And that is the law written on your hearts.”

This is the plea from Ben Domenech, co-founder of the conservative online magazine and podcast ‘The Federalist’, as he explained the war in America today over the life of the unborn. When he encourages the audience to “consider the law written on your hearts”, he is making a direct reference to the Bible.

In our verse this week, the Old Testament prophet Jeremiah promises in 600 BC that a day is coming when God will write His law on your hearts so that you will know you are His child. This verse from Jeremiah is repeated in the New Testament as the picture of what happens in a person’s heart and mind when they give their lives to the lordship of Jesus Christ: “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts, and write them on their minds” (Hebrews 10:16).

Ben’s plea is that those of us who love Jesus Christ remember that He is the One who has given life to every man and woman, including the baby in the womb. And that makes that baby sacred in God’s eyes.

On Fox News this past week, Ben explains what is happening in America – a War Against the Unborn: “For the past half century, America has dominated a category no one would ever want to own. We have one of the most radical abortion regimes in the world. It might surprise you to know this.

That supposedly extreme Mississippi law headed for the Supreme Court, which would block abortions after 15 weeks, would be right at home in Europe, where all those nations the Left wants to emulate, like France and Sweden, ban abortion. In fact, all the 27 European countries you see on your screen ban elective abortion at 12 weeks. None of them have what America has in many states: abortion up to the point of birth (39 weeks). For that, you must look at our moral equals in nations like China and North Korea.

Why is it that America has persisted in this extreme regime, even as the rest of the world has woken up to the moral reality of what abortion does to families and societies? Many of us have been willing to look the other way. And a vast industry of powerful forces in America have worked very hard to make sure we do.

There is no more important single issue today to the Left than abortion. It is an item of faith they are wedded to stronger than any religious conviction. If you have ever been taken aback by the vitriol, violence and false accusations leveled against any who challenge abortion, you know what I am talking about.

To criticize abortion is to put yourself at odds with the most powerful activist groups and donors. It is to take on WOKE corporatists, Hollywood, corrupt media, big tech – just about everyone with power in America.

Since Roe vs. Wade short-circuited the legal conversation about abortion, the Left has worked to gaslight the country into believing things that are not true: 1) They pretended they wanted abortions to be rare; 2) they claimed they didn’t profit from them; 3) they denied they sold organs; 4) they refused to acknowledge the science of what we know about the development of unborn babies; 5) they ignored the terrible and tragic impact on America’s poorest and most vulnerable families, and on the black community in particular. More black babies are aborted than are born in New York City every year, and that’s fine with them.

But now, at long last, something is happening. The energy in the pro-life movement is like nothing we’ve seen before. Abortion is no longer accepted as an unobjectionable good. Decades of ultrasound pictures and women brave enough to talk about their loss have a way of changing minds.

It has been the determined work of heroic women in our culture that is the reason we are at this point that so many of us despaired that it was not possible to get here. They have taken on the Goliath of the abortion industry and all its vile works with fearless dedication to be a voice for the voiceless.

Are the unborn lives taking root in America not worthy of life? ‘Human weeds’, as Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger said, whose destruction is ‘a public good’… or are the unborn unique persons with the right to draw breath and blossom? Look to the law written in your heart. You know this to be true.”

King David agrees with Ben: “Your word is hidden in my heart. I would not sin against You” (Psalm 119:11).
