  • Estampes (Postcards) comprises three pieces:
    Pagodes; Soiree dans Granada; Jardins Sous la Pluie
  • Sonata no. 5, op. 53 – Alexander Scriabin (1871-1915)   12:00
    This Sonata, composed in 1907, is in F# major, and is in one movement.

Michael Tortorella moved to Santa Fe in 2019 after retiring from Bell Laboratories and Rutgers University.  He holds the Ph. D. degree in mathematics from Purdue University.  In addition to his recent book Reliability, Maintainability, and Supportability Best Practices for Systems Engineers, he is the author of many articles in refereed journals as well as several book chapters.

Tortorella began playing the piano while living in Tirrenia, Italy, at age 5.  His first teacher was Maria Fanali of Marina di Pisa. Subsequently he studied with Constance Meich of the Bronx, NY. He currently works with Rosa Maria Martin of San Diego, CA. While loving Chopin as the fount of all pianism, he currently favors the music of the late 19th and early 20th centuries: Scriabin, Debussy, Ravel, Rachmaninoff, and Griffes.

First Presbyterian offers weekly recitals from 5:30-6 p.m. Friday evenings.  These concerts are free and open to all.  A freewill offering for the recital fund will be received.

COVID-19 Prevention Protocols:

  • Anyone not feeling well must not attend any TGIF concert. 
  • Anyone who has been in close contact with someone having COVID-19 must not attend TGIF until after the self-isolation period has ended. 
  • Full Vaccination is required of all who attend.
  • Masks are required at all times and in all places inside the church building. 
  • Social Distancing is expected; maintain a safe distance everywhere in the building. Seats which are to remain unoccupied are marked. 
  • Entry and Exit: Once you have entered the building, please move directly to the sanctuary and take your seat. If using the elevator, please limit occupancy to six people. After the event is over, remain masked and move directly to an exit. Greeting and conversation will be conducted outside.
