Maryland women’s basketball head coach Brenda Frese has added the first commitment to her 2023 recruiting class with guard Emily Fisher announcing her decision to commit to Maryland on Monday.

Frese and her coaching staff extended the offer to Fisher on July 15. Fisher chose Maryland over offers from more than ten other schools, including Big Ten foes Michigan and Nebraska.

“I am so honored and excited to announce my commitment to @TerpsWBB!” Fisher wrote in a Twitter post. “I have finally found my second home!”

Fisher helped lead Libertyville High School in Libertyville, Illinois, to a regular season conference championship and was named to the 2021 Illinois AP Class 4A First Team. In her sophomore season, Fisher averaged 15.5 points, 8.1 rebounds, 3.9 assists and two blocks per game.

In addition to her success at Libertyville, Fisher plays AUU ball for the Wolverinas, a competitive team based in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago. She has achieved much with the Wolverinas per the team’s website, including being named to the 2022 Blue Platinum All-Tournament Team at the 2019 Run 4 The Roses despite playing a year above her age.

With good size and standing at exactly six-feet tall, the current high school junior thrives in her ability to score off the dribble at all three levels. Fisher is versatile and most dangerous with her smooth handle when she can get downhill and finish around the rim. In addition to her offensive prowess, Fisher has proved herself as a capable rim protector, as she showed both on film and the stat sheet.

Though she is seen as a three-star by ESPN and is not currently ranked in its 2023 Super 60, Prep Girls Hoops has Fisher as the 48th-best player in the nation and the third-highest ranked player in Illinois. Fisher has a ton of talent and high-major offers, so it is hard to not imagine a rise in the recruiting rankings, especially after committing to one of the nation’s best recruiters in Frese.
