Volleyball Looks to Rebound at Montana State Billings and Seattle Pacific

FAIRBANKS – After a loss on Saturday to their in-state rivals, Alaska Anchorage, the Nanooks volleyball team takes to the road for matchups with Montana State Billings and Seattle Pacific.

Last Time Out
The Nanooks are coming off of a road trip to Anchorage. Unfortunately, the 'Nooks were swept by the Seawolves, dropping the second set and close first and third sets, resulting in the sweep. AveRee Reynolds led the attack for the Nanooks with seven kills. Just behind with six was Sophie Schilling and Karli Nielson. Schilling added four total blocks, tying the game-high. Cate Whiting posted 17 assists and Dani Dodge found 16 digs.

GNAC Standings
Alaska currently finds themselves in fifth-place of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. Alaska Anchorage holds the top-spot with a 15-5, 8-0 GNAC record while Western Washington follows closely behind at 11-4, 7-1 GNAC. Simon Fraser and Central Washington check in at third and fourth while SFU has a 12-4, 6-3 GNAC record and CWU is 10-5, 6-3 GNAC. Alaska is 13-8, 6-3 GNAC with wins over CWU, SPU, MSUB, NNU, SMU and WOU, who all round out the GNAC standings.

Conference Stats
Sophie Schilling finds herself eighth in the GNAC for hitting percentage, the only Nanook in the top-20. The sophomore MB has a .284 hit percentage with 78 sets-played. On the year, she has collected 164 kills on 398 attempts, recording only 51 errors. In the kills category, AveRee Reynolds and Karli Nielson both cracked the top-20 for the conference. Reynolds leads the way between the two, coming in at 14th with 209 kills through 77 sets. This gives her a 2.71 kills per set average. Nielson comes in just behind Reynolds in 17th. She has posted 148 kills for an average of 2.69 kills per set.

Cate Whiting leads the GNAC in total assists with 748 through 78 sets. She also comes in at fourth with an average of 9.59 assists per set. Alaska has three Nanooks in the top-20 service-aces as freshman Rilee White leads the Nanooks. She is sixth in the GNAC with 0.37 aces per set. She has 25 service-aces on the season. Lahra Weber joined her in the top-10 with 22 aces on the season and an average of 0.33 aces per set, putting her in ninth. Whiting joins them at 16th with 23 aces on the year and an average of 0.29 aces per set.

Emily Moorhead knows how to leave her mark on the net. The senior finds herself in fourth of the GNAC with 83.0 total blocks for an average of 1.17 blocks per set. Her 83.0 total blocks is second in the GNAC. Sophie Schilling is just behind with 82.0 and an average of 1.05 blocks per set, good enough for seventh in the league. Reynolds is 12th with 74.0 total and an average of 0.96.

Dani Dodge and Cate Whiting are in the top-20 for digs. Dodge, in the top-five, is third with an average of 4.36 digs per set. She has 340 total digs on the season, the most in the GNAC. Whiting is 11th with 283 total and an average of 3.63 digs per set.

What's Next – MSUB & SPU

MSUB Yellowjackets (7-11, 3-6 GNAC)
Montana State Billings will host the Nanooks on Oct. 21 for their annual Dig Pink game at 5:00 p.m. AKT. Montana is currently riding a three-game losing-streak, dropping their previous matches against Seattle Pacific (0-3), Simon Fraser (0-3) and Western Washington (0-3). Their last win came on Oct. 5 against Rocky Mountain College. Their last GNAC win came against Saint Martin's on Oct. 2, a 3-0 sweep.

MSUB is led by Bayli Monck on the attack. She has 215 kills on the year for an average of 3.47 per set. Just behind her with 182 kills is Skylar Reed. Hannah Hashburger has run the distribution department all season, dishing out 471 assists for an average of 7.85 per set. Briel Norman is the only other Yellowjacket with more than 50 assists, posting 72 on the season. At the net, Billings is led by Joelle Mahowald (59.0 total) and Hannah Hayden (55.0 total). Christine Funk leads in digs, collecting 254 on the season for an average of 4.10 per set.

SPU Falcons (9-7, 5-4 GNAC)
Seattle Pacific hosts Alaska on Oct. 23 at 2:00 p.m. AKT. Montana is on their own two-game losing-streak. They lost in straight-sets to Western Washington on Oct. 14 before falling to Simon Fraser in four-sets on Oct. 16. SPU will face-off with Alaska Anchorage before welcoming the Nanooks to town.

Maddie Batiste and Hannah Hair have continued their attack on the Seattle Pacific roster as Batiste leads the way with 141 kills for an average of 2.71 kills per set. Hair follows close behind with 123 and 2.41 per set average. Abby Cunningham leads the way on defense with 177 digs on the year. Erin Gould has 120 of her own and Maddie Batiste has collected 118. Hannah Hair leads the Falcons with 67 total blocks for an average of 1.31 per set. Allison Wilks has the next most blocks with 42.
