The Boston Celtics had a very eventful last few months and everything seemed to start with them losing to the Brooklyn Nets in five games during the first round of the NBA playoffs.

Following their early exit in what seemed like a lost season for the Celtics, the team decided to head in a new direction by parting ways with long-time executive Danny Ainge and replacing him with the current head coach at the time, Brad Stevens.

Being in the front office for the first time ever, Stevens has made a lot of changes to Boston’s roster in order to add more overall talent around the team’s two superstars: Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Not only did they move Kemba Walker in the offseason, but the team also decided not to bring back Evan Fournier, who they traded for at the trade deadline last year.

Boston brought back veteran Al Horford, who they let go following the 2018-19 season, and the team also brought in the likes of Josh Richardson, Juancho Hernangomez, Enes Kanter, and Dennis Schroder. Bench depth and bench scoring have always been a problem of the Celtics over the years, but finally, they have a really strong group of secondary talents to compliment the likes of Tatum and Brown.

This team is definitely one to monitor throughout the season because of the new additions they have on their roster, but another reason to monitor the Celtics is because of all the trade exceptions they have.

Boston has the ability to bring in several different players via trades throughout the regular season and one key veteran they could look to target for more shooting depth is forward Nicolas Batum.

After signing a new two-year deal in the offseason with the LA Clippers, a deal that does have an opt-out clause for Batum following the 2021-22 season, it seems unrealistic to believe that Los Angeles would have ideas about trading their veteran forward, but this may not stop Boston from pursuing him.

Do the Boston Celtics have the capability to trade for Nicolas Batum at some point during the 2021-22 season? Let’s take a look at what this trade proposal from the Celtics could wind up looking like.
