Female Speedway Manager’s Equal Pay Suit Certified as Class Case

A woman who says 7-Eleven Inc. subsidiary Speedway LLC pays female general managers less than male general managers can pursue her Equal Pay Act lawsuit as a class action, the Eastern District of Pennsylvania ruled.

Nancy De Block met the low bar for conditional class certification under the Fair Labor Standards Act, which “provides a specific enforcement mechanism for” Equal Pay Act claims, the court said.

She was only required to make a “modest factual showing” that her allegations of classwide sex-based pay discrimination are more than “pure speculation,” the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania said. ...
