8-game streak ends for Tigers, another starts

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers had a winning streak in varsity boys soccer halted, so they started another one. Following their 2-1 Sept. 28 road win over Oak Grove in Missouri River Valley Conference play, the Tigers fell 2-1 Sept. 30 at Smithville in nonconference play, ending an eight-game winning streak. Senior Ethan Edwards picked up Excelsior Springs’ lone goal by finishing a free kick in the 18th minute to give the Tigers the opening lead. That lead vanished in the 41st minute, with the Warriors scoring the game-winning goal in the 56th minute. Junior goalkeeper Braxton Moffett collected eight saves in the loss. The Tigers returned to their winning ways on Oct. 5, when they visited Center and defeated the Yellowjackets 3-1 in MRVC action. Freshman Jacob Zapata put the Tigers ahead in the seventh minute by finishing a pass from junior Brendan Blackburn. The Yellowjackets answered in the 38th minute.
