The Ye’s have it.
Kanye West shall henceforth legally be known as “Ye,” per the rapper’s wishes, a Los Angeles judge decreed Monday.
West’s petition to change his name was filed on Aug. 24; he said at the time he was making the change for personal reasons.
It’s unknown how the move will affect the 44-year-old’s business dealings — or his divorce proceedings, given that his soon-to-be-ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, was still appending “West” to her name as recently as her “Saturday Night Live” appearance earlier this month, confounding viewers.
Despite that confusing billing, a source definitively told us at the time that the pair “are not back together,” adding, “He is still her family, and they are friends.”
Per Deadline, in a 2018 interview, the same year that West — excuse us, Ye — released his now-eponymous album, “Ye,” he told radio host Big Boy that “ye” was the most commonly used word in the Bible.
The trade website then helpfully cites Merriam-Webster’s etymological history of the word, delineating that it appears as a plural form of “you” in the Bible and also noting its more commonly appearing form since then — as an archaic form of “the.”
West — sorry again, Ye — has been divesting himself of much of the trappings of his “old” life with 40-year-old Kardashian: He listed his 3,800-acre Wyoming ranch known as “Monster Lake” last week for $11 million. And he’ll be parting with another piece of property from that time in his life, whether he wants to or not: Also last week, Kardashian won the $60 million Hidden Hills home the two shared.
According to TMZ, West and Kardashian negotiated a buyout price for the property. They first acquired the 5,000-square-foot manse for $20 million in 2014 before doing a ground-up renovation largely determined by Ye’s — getting the hang of this, finally — vision.
