DETROIT -- A 30-year-old woman is in custody in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that took place Saturday morning, killing two mothers who were out celebrating for Sweetest Day. According to Fox 2 Detroit, Erica Yancey and her sister-in-law Brittany Jones were leaving the Kings & Queens Banquet Hall on Schaefer Highway when the driver of a Kia Soul hit them.

That driver did not stop after hitting the duo and police later recovered the car which had significant damage to the front end. The driver of the Kia was not with the car when police found it, but the suspect did turn herself in Monday morning. The name of the suspect has not been released at this time.

The victims were leaving the banquet hall around 2 a.m. after celebrating the evening with friends. Both women were mothers of three. WDIV Detroit reports Yancey’s children range in age from 3 to 19 years old.
