Spartan Gymnastics Announces 2022 Schedule

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State women's gymnastics head coach Mike Rowe announced the Spartans' 2022 schedule Monday afternoon.

"We are thrilled for the up-and-coming 2022 women's gymnastics season as it's a fresh start for our program," head coach Mike Rowe commented. "We are stronger and better than ever and the parity amongst the Big Ten as a conference is also getting more competitive than ever."

"We are on track with achieving our milestones and event benchmarks, even maybe a little bit ahead of past years, showing us that this year's team is hungry to do great things."

This year's schedule includes five home meets at Jenison Field House. Michigan State will host Big Ten opponents Iowa, Maryland and Illinois for meets in East Lansing.

The Spartans will also compete in the B1G Five Meet on Feb. 19 as part of the Elevate the Stage annual event in Toledo, Ohio.

The Spartans welcome back 12 gymnasts including five seniors to the 2021-22 squad, and bring in six newcomers in the form of five freshman and one transfer.

Meet the Spartans takes place on Nov. 20 at 1 p.m. to celebrate the incoming start of the season. Fans are welcome to meet this year's squad and get a sneak peek at upcoming routines. The Spartans will also bring back their annual Green & White meet, with details to be announced later.

MSU opens its season on the road with UC Davis on Jan. 9, followed by a tri meet with Bowling Green and Illinois State at home on Jan. 15. They close out the month of January with a hosting of Iowa on Jan. 22 and a trip to Michigan on Jan. 30.

"We are looking forward to being in front of our fans again, opening at home against Bowling Green and Illinois State and then entertaining last year's regular season Big Ten champs Iowa the following weekend," Rowe said.

February opens with two home events for the Spartans as they play host to Maryland on Feb. 5 and Illinois on Feb. 13. Following the B1G Five Meet, they are on the road again, this time against Ohio State, to round out the month.

The squad wraps things up with two final regular-season events in March. Both are non-conference meets, with a hosting of Western Michigan taking place on March 5 before the Spartans hit the road to face Kentucky on March 11.

The 2022 Big Ten Championships are slated for March 18-20 in Iowa City and will be hosted by Iowa.
