Ludens Mask Glasses

Limited Edition Death Stranding J.F.REY Collaboration Glasses Replicate Sam Bridge’s Ludens Mask

Kojima Productions is collaborating with French fashion eyewear brand J.F.REY to create 3D-printed Ludens Mask glasses, similar to those worn by Sam “Porter” Bridges in Death Stranding. The limited-edition glasses will come boxed with a second pair of HKxJF03 glasses, an original design created in partnership with Hideo Kojima. In addition to the limited edition Ludens Mask, Kojima also revealed three other new original models made in collaboration with the brand. The glasses are currently available for preorder and will ship sometime at the end of March 2022.

The new line of glasses is reportedly “inspired by Death Stranding‘s futuristic universe”, and was made under the artistic direction of game designer Hideo Kojima. The Ludens Mask is modeled at J.F.REY’s design studio and produced using Selective Laser Sintering or SLS (a form of 3D printing). It comes with adjustable nose pads as well as rimlocks, so owners will also be able to insert prescription lenses or sunglasses of their choosing. The sides of the glasses are also marked with the Kojima Productions emblem.

Included with the Ludens Mask are the HKxJF03 model glasses, made using a combination of metal, plastic, and nylon. The HKxJF03 glasses come with a leather package with “Hideo Kojima x Jean-Francois Rey” embossed on the front. The box is also of special quality, with the words “From Sapiens to Ludens” written on the cover.

Furthermore, J.F.REY is releasing two other models: HKxJF01 and HKxJF02. Each model will come in three different designs, each with a unique pattern. HKxJF01 will feature a Black edition, Chess edition (resembling the pattern of a chessboard), and Army edition (featuring a black and green camouflage pattern). HKxJF01 will also come with two separate lenses for outdoor and indoor wear, and allow wearers to move the sunglasses to the side.

Alternatively, the HKxJF02 model will come in a semi-transparent Black edition, splotched Blue edition, and traditional camouflage Army edition. Similarly, users will be able to take the sunglass lenses off of the frame for indoor use.

Strangely, it looks as though preorders are only available through direct phone call, however this could be the luxury brand attempting to circumvent recent issues with scalpers and bots buying the items and driving up later resale value through scarcity. Though considering there’s no price listed on the website, the limited edition lenses could cost a pretty penny already.

This is far from the first video game collaboration with luxury fashion brands. PlayStation recently teamed up with Balenciaga to release a pricey PS5 launch clothing lineup.
