49ers Rumors: Mychal Kendricks to Sign Contract with SF in Return from Injury

Paul Kasabian

The San Francisco 49ers are expected to sign veteran linebacker Mychal Kendricks after he completes his physical Monday, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Kendricks took part in the 49ers' 2021 training camp, but he suffered a turf toe injury during the second preseason game. San Francisco placed him on injured reserve Aug. 24 and released him off IR on Sept. 2.

The 31-year-old has played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Seattle Seahawks and Washington Football Team in his nine-year career.

Kendricks pleaded guilty to insider trading in 2018, and in July he was sentenced to one day in jail, three years of probation and 300 hours of community service, per ESPN's Brady Henderson.

The NFL suspended the then-Seahawks linebacker for eight games in 2018 for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

Kendricks' last full season was with Seattle in 2019. He had 71 tackles, three sacks and one interception in 14 games but suffered a torn ACL that December. He signed to Seattle's practice squad the following season. Washington signed him off the practice squad in December, and he appeared in one game.

As Matt Barrows of The Athletic noted, the 49ers have been looking for a veteran linebacker since the NFL draft in April. They'll get one in the ex-Cal star, who is returning to the Bay Area to try to help a 2-3 49ers team that has lost three straight games.
