Mountain lion captured after causing school lockdowns in Sonoma County

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. (KRON) — A mountain lion seen roaming in Rohnert Park has been sedated and captured.

She was caught just before 10:30 a.m. Monday, over two hours after nearby schools were placed on lockdown due to the sighting.

Evergreen and Lawrence Jones Middle Schools were impacted, according to the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety.

Officials said the mountain lion has a tracking device and is known to the Fish & Game department.

People are asked to stay away from the area of the Five Creek Trail and Crane Creek Trail just east of Eagle Park and Evergreen School.
