‘America’s Got Talent’ spin-off shuts down production over contestant’s failed stunt

“America’s Got Talent: Extreme” has halted production after stuntman and contestant Jonathan Goodwin was hospitalized for injuries following a daredevil stunt.

According to USA Today, an accident occurred on the set of the show Thursday while Goodwin was performing his stunt.

A production spokesperson for “America’s Got Talent: Extreme” shared an update Sunday, revealing that Goodwin is recovering from his injuries and the show will halt production, which was on the final days of shooting, until “a later date.

“Our thoughts and prayers remain with Jonathan Goodwin and his family as he continues to recover from his accident on Thursday,” the statement reads. “In order to focus on the wellbeing of our crew, we will be temporarily pausing production on America’s Got Talent: Extreme and will resume the last few days of filming at a later date. The health and safety of our cast and crew continue to be our priority.”

Goodwin is known for his daredevil acts and calls himself the “greatest theatrical stunt performer,” according to his Instagram page. His official website describes him as a “professional danger man” who has “put himself in the most extreme situations and dodged death each time.”

Goodwin competed in Season 15 of the original “America’s Got Talent” series in 2020, although he was eliminated in the semifinals.

The winner of the spin-off show, which will feature death-defying acts, receives $500,000. The show will feature three judges, according to The New York Post: WWE star Nikki Bella, executive producer Simon Cowell and X Games gold medalist Travis Pastrana.

A premiere date has not yet been announced.
