With the Penguins off to a hot start this season, their two superstar forwards, both missing time due to injury, both also seem to be progressing towards getting back in the lineup.

Monday morning, Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin took the ice at the UPMC Lemieux Complex in Cranberry.

Crosby had offseason wrist surgery, while Malkin had surgery on his knee.

Crosby’s expected timeframe for recovery was six weeks, with the surgery announced in early September. His return to the lineup could be nearing closer.

Malkin had knee surgery performed in June, and the timeframe for his return was initially unclear. An update was provided last month that Malkin is expected to miss the first 2 months of the season. The fact that he is skating now is a good sign, with no setbacks being reported as of yet.

The fact that the Penguins have not struggled out of the gate, with two wins and an overtime loss can only help, as there will likely be less of a rush to get either player back into the lineup.

The Penguins host the Dallas Stars tomorrow night at PPG Paints Arena.
