A Chesterton woman has lost $3,150 after she fell for an email scam involving a fake purchase from Amazon.
The woman told police, she got an email on Oct. 1 from Amazon, claiming her shipment was ready. However, the woman had not made any purchase from Amazon.
She was then told “her name and information were leaked and locked in China, France, Afghanistan, Russia and Sri Lanka.”
She was instructed to purchase two Target gift cards in the amount of $500 each and after doing so, called the number again and was instructed to read the numbers from the cards.
She then repeated the process two more times at three different stores.

Amazon tried this with me too. It was when I called them for a refund they owed. Bezos needs to clean house of these frauds. Yes, its Amazon employees doing this gift card scam
It’s a shame people fall for these emails, I get them all the time and send them right back to abuse@amazon.com
