MONDAY UPDATES: Missouri DHSS adds 74 coronavirus related deaths after analyzing death certificates

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services has added 74 COVID-19 related deaths after the state’s disease surveillance system analyzed several death certificates.

Officials say the deaths will be captured and reported publicly through the dashboard Tuesday morning.

Of the 74 deaths:

  • one in July
  • six in August
  • 46 in September
    • 21 in October

Officials at DHSS report the weekly activity typically causes a sharp increase in the deaths added to Missouri’s total the following day. DHSS is now regularly analyzing death certificates on Mondays.

Officials say the state does not track probable or pending deaths.

Boone County reports two new coronavirus-related deaths; 39 new COVID cases over the weekend

The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services reported two new coronavirus-related deaths. The county has now reported 168 coronavirus deaths since the pandemic started. The first individual was in the 80+ age group and died Aug. 25. The second individual was in the 80+ age group and died Oct. 5.

The health department reported 39 new COVID-19 cases from over the weekend.

There are currently 346 active cases in the county, a decrease of 27 from Friday. The county now has a reported total number of 25,186 COVID-19 cases.

The county reported 24,672 cases removed from isolation, an increase of 64 from Friday.

Boone County ranks eighth in the state with the most coronavirus cases in total volume in the past week. Cases are down 9.3% when comparing last week to the prior week. The county has a 6.7% positive test rate, according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS).

The health department's hospital status is green with 62 COVID-19 patients in Boone County hospitals and 15 of them being Boone County residents. Of those, 19 are in intensive care and eight are on ventilators.

The Missouri coronavirus vaccine dashboard reports that 100,686  residents have received their first dose in Boone County and 91,15 Boone County residents have completed their vaccine doses.

Boone County has the third-largest percentage of county residents in Missouri that have received at least one dose of the vaccine with 55.8%. The largest county in the state is St. Louis County with 59.5%.

Boone County is third in the state with a reported 50.5% of residents that have completed their coronavirus vaccine doses. St. Louis County is the first county in the state with 53.3% of residents have completed the doses for vaccination. The city of Joplin has 56.7% of the population fully vaccinated.

Cole County has the second-highest first vaccination rate in Mid-Missouri with 49.8%. Callaway County is third with 45.7%.

The Columbia Public Schools reports active coronavirus and quarantine cases to their website daily.

The district reported a 28.5 14-day rate per 10,000 for Friday.

There are two staff at elementary, one staff member at the high school level, and one staff at district-wide facility that have tested positive for the coronavirus. The district has one staff member at district-wide facility currently quarantined because of COVID.

The district reports 26 district facilities to have students currently out due to the coronavirus. There are 16 out of 21 elementary, five out of seven middle schools, all high schools and one district-wide facility affected.

There are 25 students that have tested positive for COVID-19, a decrease of 12 cases from Friday. The district is reporting 20 students in elementary, 10 students in middle school and seven students in high school have tested positive for the coronavirus.

There are 196 students, which are required to quarantine due to the coronavirus, an increase of 13 students from Thursday. The district reports 126 elementary students are currently quarantining, 62 students in middle school, eight students in high school and one at other district facilities.

Cole County reports 18 new coronavirus cases over the weekend

The Cole County Health Department reported 18 new coronavirus cases from over the weekend.

According to the dashboard update, there are 11,067 residential cases and 286 long-term care facility resident cases. That is 11,353 total cases in the county.

Cole County has reported 163 coronavirus deaths since the pandemic began.

Cole County ranks 61st in the state for counties with the most coronavirus cases per 100,000 in the past week. Cases are up 2% comparing last week to the prior week. The county has a 6.9% positivity test rate, according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.

The Missouri coronavirus vaccine dashboard reports about 49.8% of the county have initiated their first dose of the vaccine and 45.7% of the county's population have been fully vaccinated.

The Jefferson City School District reported no new coronavirus cases in students or staff from over the weekend.

The district is reporting three active cases in students and no active cases in staff.

The district is reporting 22 close contacts for students and one close contact for staff.

More than 77,000 vaccine doses administered in past seven days

Missouri has a seven-day COVID-19 positivity rate of 7.4%, according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.

As of Monday morning, Missouri added 400 positive PCR cases of COVID-19. The state has had a total of nearly 700,000 confirmed positive cases since the start of the pandemic.

The Missouri public health dashboard also reported 33 new probable antigen cases, bringing the total number up to 148,340.

In the last seven days, DHSS reported 12 new deaths due to the virus. The state dashboard showed that Missouri has had more than 11,800 total COVID-19 deaths.

According to the most recent data, just under 1,175 people were in Missouri hospitals with COVID-19 infections. Of that number, 325 people were in the ICU and 210 were on ventilators.

In Missouri, 48.7% are fully vaccinated and 54.6% of people have initiated the vaccination process. In the past seven days, the state dashboard recorded that there were more than 77,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine administered in the Show-Me State.
