National narrative

When I observe what is happening under the Biden administration, three movies suggest to me the future of the United States, in the order listed:

  • Manchurian Candidate
  • The Mouse that Roared.
  • Dr. Strangelove.

Down this path before

I read the letter to the editor, "Biden on a dangerous path" in Friday’s News-Journal and just wanted to take a minute to remind the writer it took President Barack Obama eight years to dig America out of the mess President George W. Bush got us into: The Afghan and Iraq wars he started under false pretenses, saying that there were " weapons of mass destruction” — a war he never budgeted for or paid for. The massive housing collapse that almost bankrupted the country.

When Obama took over, we were losing 750,000 jobs a month. It took a Democratic-led government to overcome all of the mess we were left with when Bush left office.

Now we have to dig out of the mess that another Republican President and Senate got us into. Afghanistan, insurrection, two Impeachments, withholding arms from an ally for political favors crippling the economy, pretending COVID was a hoax and the biggest Lie ever told, that Donald Trump won the election — a lie that continues to tear at the fabric of this nation.

Can you imagine a grown man telling such bold-faced lies and politicians around him swearing to it?

So to the letter writer. Be patient. Democrats will bail us out and fix everything again, so you Republicans can come behind us and figure a way to ruin it again.
