Gwendoline Christie has starred in everything from Game of Thrones to Disney's Star Wars sequels, one of The Hunger Games movies and Russell T Davies' Wizards vs Aliens.

She's hasn't been seen on screen for a little while but now she's making a comeback in Netflix's big adaptation of Neil Gaiman's classic The Sandman, playing none other than the ruler of Hell, Lucifer (not that one).

A poster for the series that debuted at DC's FanDome event over the weekend – Warner Bros is producing the show for Netflix – showed us what the actress is going to look like in the role, and we're a little unnerved by her ice-cold stare.

Christie looks almost cherubic with her curly hair and pale face, with the shadow of her wings framing her face so that you can't help but look at those piercing eyes.

The show has some other recognisable names in its cast, with The Boat That Rocked's Tom Sturridge as lead character Morpheus, Logan's Boyd Holbrook as The Corinthian, fellow Thrones alum Charles Dance as occultist Roderick Burgess, Asim Chaudhry and Sanjeev Bhaskar as Cain and Abel, Cruella's Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death, Doctor Who's Jenna Coleman as Johanna Constantine, Harry Potter's David Thewlis as Doctor Destiny, and MODOK's Patton Oswalt as Matthew the Raven.

Oh, and of course national treasure Stephen Fry has a role in this as well.

After a long development process that originally saw it planned as a movie with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, The Sandman is finally all filmed and we expect it to premiere at some point next year.

Meanwhile, an audio version of Gaiman's comic series starring X-Men's James McAvoy as Morpheus has been released on Audible if you fancy giving that a whirl.

Joe Anderton is a freelance news writer and resident Welsh person at Digital Spy, having worked there since 2016.

In his time he's covered a host of live events, interviewed celebrities big and small and crowbarred a countless amount of great/awful (delete as appropriate) puns into articles.

A big fan of TV and movies both mainstream and obscure, Joe's main interest is in video gaming. Although particularly a PlayStation gamer, he plays across Xbox, Nintendo and PC/Steam Deck, and likes to keep tabs on many games he's not got the time to play.

Joe currently does not use Twitter, but he only ever used it to tell people to watch the film Help! I'm a Fish (which you really should do).
